Himeji Castle was established during the early Edo era. The remain part of the castle is regarded as the national treasure and the important cultural property. In addition, the Castle was registered in 1993 as one of the first UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the country. The castle is frequently known as Shirasagi-jo ("White Egret Castle") because of its brilliant white exterior and supposed resemblance to a bird taking flight.
